Metabolic Shaker Bath

The Metabolic Shaker is a two-wall structure composed of thick stainless steel on the inside and properly enamel-painted mild steel on the outside. The S.S. pyramid-shaped cover keeps accumulated water droplets from dropping onto the specimens. An immersion type heater is used to provide the necessary heat, and a hydraulic type thermostat known as the “Imported Thermostat” regulates the temperature precisely to within 0.5°C. An oscillating tray in the bathtub is driven by a geared variable speed motor and oscillates on ball rollers. The range of shaking speeds is 40 to 140 cycles per minute. Either test tubes or Erlenmeyer flasks with capacities of 25, 50, 100, 250, or 500 milliliters can be placed on the shaking tray.
